Crossover Card Tutorial

Hi and welcome to Sarah Hurley 365.

Today I ( Clare) wanted to share my quick and simple tutorial on how I created my crossover card.  Anyone that knows me will know I don't do complicated but I do fun and that's the most important thing of all!

*You will need two square blank cards of equal size
* cut one the front of one card diagonally from the top left corner to the bottom right corner
* cut the front of the second card diagonally from the top right corner down to the bottom left corner

* open the card flaps up and place one card on top of the other using double sided tape to fix in place

* cut a square piece of patterned paper measuring slightly smaller than the card blank.
* cut diagonally from the top left corner down to the bottom right corner

*fix patterned paper on the front of the card

* using card stock and pattered paper matt and layer a border strip

* add the border across the centre of the card

 * Stamp and colour an image of your choice
* stamp and cut out a sentiment
* die cut a flower and pop on a button

I used the following of Sarah's products

* paper- 'A Few Of My Favourite Things' monthly kit'
* Image- 'Be Amazing' Girl stamp set
* Sentiment- 'Dream a Little Dream' stamp set

If you haven't already seen our monthly challenge you can find it here

A layout for February

Here's the second of my posts for March and as promised in my earlier post, I've created a layout for my February Project Life album.

My background is the gorgeous soft pink paper from February's A Few of My Favourite Things kit as well as some of the other papers used as a backing for the photo.

I cut and layered a few different patterned papers as well as sneaking in a few journaling cards and cut outs from other kits.
I stamped around where I was going to place the photo with a mixture of mini kit club stamps and the big chevron background stamp.

Also with the February kit came a mini triangles stencil which I used in a couple of places around the page with some texture paste.

I wrote the title with a paint brush and ink and cut it out. I don't normally like my own handwriting but done this way I had much more control over what it looked like and where I placed it.

I just love all the layers.

Have a good week and I'll see you soon.

Time to try digital scrapbooking.

Hello, it's Carol here and it's my turn to share a creation with you. Today I will be sharing a digital scrapbooking layout page using Sarah's Be Mine Digital Kit. I decided to use a picture of our cat Aggie, her Sunday name is Agatha, and our surname is Christie so the typewriter in this kit is just perfect for  what I had in mind.

I used Digital Designer, but you can use Serif or any other software you are comfortable using. I chose to make the Lay Out 8x8 and used the Bubbles paper as my base, the colours in the kit all match perfectly and can be mixed and matched and that is really what I wanted to show with this page.

The kit has loads of awesome journalling cards that can be used for lots of different things from Project Life to notecards. I layered up a couple of those then popped Aggie's picture onto them, I added some teal striped washi tape to make it look like the piccie was stuck down. I thought the typewriter was perfect considering Aggie's name, and added a wee story onto the paper coming out of it.

I popped a cloud embellishment on, and some of the cute paper planes to add some extra prettiness to the page. And I love the heart border and couldn't resist it, I think it finishes the page of perfectly.

Made using Be Mine Digital Kit

I hope you like this page, I had great fun making it and loved trying something different.

Remember there is still time to enter our Speech Bubble Challenge.

Thanks for visiting today, have a good day, Carol xx

Clean & Simple

Hi Folk's it's Tania here with my DT spot.
Today I have a very clean & simple card I have used 2 stamps and a few  promarkers
(opps forgot to write down the colours) and some gold liquid pearls and thats about it.
I have used a sentiment and flower from

Firstly I stamped the flower image on the card blank  and coloured with Promarkers, I then stamped the flower twice more and coloured and fussy cut them out so I could decoupage them. I then added it to the flower with a 3d pad. I also added glossy accents to the bow.
To finish the card off I added the the sentiment and finished it off with gold liquid pearls.
This card would be suitable when somone is ill , or you are worried about them.
Thanks you so much for visiting
any questions just ask hugs

Sweet & Simple Scrapbooking

Hello there, Claireliz here, how are you?

I love Sarahs AFOMFT monthly kits & I always try to make as many projects from them as possible but inevitably there are always small scraps of pretty patterned papers left over.
This months Neopolitan kit has been my favourite ever so far & I couldn't bear to leave any little bits unused. I came up with a really simple idea to use up all those little pieces of paper & create a simple & sweet layout...

I knew I wanted to use this Instagram photo of a cake that we made a while back... it was delicious. I had one 4 inch x 4 inch piece of paper which I knew would sit behind the photo. I took the paper & photo & positioned them roughly where I wanted them, then I took the small pieces of paper & began to cut lots of little triangles 2cm wide by 3 cm tall, I then paid them on my page in position, at this point I took a photo on my phone to make sure I put them back in the right place. I doodled a border & some lines for the bunting to hang from. When I'd glued all of the triangles down I doodled around them to make them stand out a bit, I also hand stitched 3 little buttons onto the layout where the doodled string hangs from. I drew & cut a frame for the photo from some corrugated card which is stuck to the photo with 3d foam pads. I layered up the pieces of paper I had left, each one being inked with Pumice Stone Distress Ink and attached them to the bottom corner of the page & attached the photo & frame using 3d foam pads, as a final touch I added 3 little gems from  my stash. The title "Say it with Cake" was made from little alpha stickers & some large chipboard glittery letters.

Well that's all from me for today, thanks for stopping by, don't forget you still have time to enter our monthly challenge, you can find the details here.
Take care & hope to see you soon.
C xx

A Little Bird Told Me...

...there is a new challenge in progress for March. The theme is 'Speech Bubbles' and I thought I would show my creation in a little more detail.

You might think from the name that Sarah's digi kit 'Be Mine' is a Valentine's kit but I wanted to show how lovely the colours and papers work for other occasions as well.

Here's what you'll need:

  • Sentiments Stamps
  • Adirondack 'Stream' inkpad
  • C6 Kraft card blank
  • Cream Card
  • Speech Bubble Die
  • Bakers Twine, Glitter Glue, Glossy Accents, Warm Grey 1 ProMarker and a Clear Wink of Stella Brush Pen

Step by Step:

  1. On Microsoft Word resize the bubble and chevron paper from the 'Be Mine' digi kit to 9.5cm by 13.5cm and the bird embellishment to 7cm tall and print onto white paper.
  2. Cut the bubble paper out and ink the edges with turquoise ink. Mat onto cream card, ink the edges and fix to the card blank with double sided tape. Stamp sentiment along the top edge.
  3. Cut the chevron paper into a 10cm by 7cm fishtail and ink the edges. Mat onto cream card, ink the edges and wrap with bakers twine. Fix to the card blank with 3D foam pads.
  4. Cut out the bird and attach to the card blank using double sided tape. Add shading with a ProMarker and a glitter pen and add Glossy Accents to the eye. Fix to the card blank using foam pads.
  5. Die cut a speech bubble four times from cream card and glue together. Once dry stamp the sentiment on and fix to the card with 3D foam pads.

Discover.........Sarah's Stamps

Hello and welcome to Friday. Its Claire N. back with you again. Do you remember my last post where  I introduced you (and myself actually!) to a novel way of documenting and journalling your treasured collection of unmounted stamps?

Well I thought I would continue in that vain, and showcase  another 4 sets of Sarah's stamps

So I took a few supplies, not many because I want the stamps to be the focus. I made the conscience decision to use 2 main colours (black & mustard yellow) with an accent of turquoise blue.

Again, I'm sure you are all familiar with this sort of storage, and would agree that it is not always that easy to determine what the stamps are.

My motivation to continue with the journal I must admit was the next two available pages in Sarah's day journal - I'm afraid I have to confess to being a dedicated lover of beige, in all its elegant glory!!! (how many of you are with me ?)  The right side page is lined like a copy book, and again provides a perfect background, particularly for these graphic styled stamps.

You can see from the close up photos here that I have layered many of the stamps together, and altered the intensity of their print by using the second generation of ink. By that I mean the first impression of the image I stamp onto scrap paper, then make a second print onto my art work. The intensity of the ink is taken away, and allows a subtler impression of the image.

The only dimension on this right hand side, is the addition of the stamped letters. I colour tinted some paper with antique linen distress ink (i didn't have the right tone of beige to match) and then stamped out the title 'Sarahs Stamps' using Sarah's Block & Outline Alpha Stamps. I then cut out each letter (not particularly carefully) and then glue them flat to the page. To make then appear 3D, I used the grey promarker to highlight underneath again.

You will see, particularly withe the thick zigzag stamp here, I have stamped it twice. Once in black, and secondly in yellow. I then took a grey promarker (ice grey 2) and draw a line on all the left hand sides of the zig zag, this gives the illusion of shadow and dimension to an otherwise flat page.

I had made this tag with the intention of using it on the page, but changed my mind (hehehe...hands up who hasn't done that either !!! LOL!)
It was too cute to disappear into the abyss of my bit box, so I turned it into a little bookmark with the youngest son's name on. He is 6 and has just discovered that reading isn't just confined to books in class or bedtime, so he now reads EVERYTHING  everywhere!!! where ever we are, so I'm sure he'll be chuffed to bits to use it in his favourite book of the week.

Thanks for visiting, remember we have a brilliant post everyday here from the rest of the team. I'm off to decide on my next set of stamps to catalogue for you. xxx

Steampunk Birthday Card

 Hi everyone,
Nicole here today with a simple and masculine steampunk birthday card. I used some of the Sarah Hurley papers, library journaling card and the steampunk digital kit for on my card. The top hat was stamped from the Love and Marriage stamp set. I fussy cut it out and foam mounted it onto a die cut hexagon. I then stapled my sentiment to this. I stapled the tickets together also for some added interest. Everything got a coating of walnut stain distress ink to age it all up. I then adhered it all to a kraft card base. I love how easy this masculine card was to make!

Sharing a project life page.

I thought for my post today I'd share a page of my project life album not simply because I can brag about being caught up but because I absolutely love to use my monthly kit club journaling cards in my pockets.
This week 9 layout was created using mainly the February kit although other bits and paper scraps were used to decorate some of the cards.

The chipboard Today embellishment was from an earlier kit.

The only things I added to the page were the alphabet stickers and journaling added with my manual typewriter.

I round all my corners off with a punch as I prefer that look.

I cut my title with a Sizzix die cut from some paper scraps.

Next time I'll share a layout which co-ordinates with this pl page.

Special Day card

Happy Friday everyone! It's Ria here.

I'm sharing a card project today using a combination of Sarah's A Few of My Favorite Things kit.
I intend to do a masculine card and was considering one to give to my Dad who's birthday is coming up this month.

Back then when iPads and LED tv's are not yet invented, we used to prepare our school reports using the manual typewriter and watch with good old CRT TV monitor. I still remember how we move those antennas to get a better signal :)

Well I think Dad will bring back those memories when he gets this graphic card.

I used AFOMFT Curio kit for my card elements. Apparently, I also love fuzzy cutting. The papers and tag are from the AFOMFT City Gent kit while the sentiment is from the Sentiments stamp set.

A closer look at the things that used to work for us back in the days.  I think we still have the typewriter hidden somewhere in our home. My mom will not let something like that we used to love be given away ;)

That's if for now and I'll catch up again soon. Happy weekend!

THINGS THAT MAKE YOU LOL

Good morning and welcome to our blog.

Today I am sharing a scrapbook page and it's about scrapping something that makes you LOL (Laugh Out Loud) or perhaps those impromptu moments.

I was just finishing getting dressed when Lewis came running through shouting 'mummy we are having a stripy sock day!' Coincidently both our socks are black and white and Sophie one of our cats is black and white to. She was having a nosey to see what we were up to. Luckily my phone was nearby so I grabbed it and took this picture. It seemed appropriate to take the picture in black and white format.

I followed a sketch and here's the basic layers

 some embellishments

here's a picture showing some stamping

Inspiration from me and the rest of the Design Team
For my card I embossed a white card base with a bubble embossing folder. I then swiped a ink pad over this to add some colour. I Used lots of bits of papers from Sarah's collections. I also used the Speech Bubble stamps to create my own background paper on the wood grain paper. I made the little envelope on the card - its a perfect gift card size!

I combined Sarah Hurley's Steampunk papers with Expedition image and added wooden speech bubble sentiment.

For my card I have used sentiments from Sarah Hurley's Sentiment Stamps, Doodle Doll new mum set and her Everday saying stamps. and stamped them in punched out speech bubbles, mounted on a white card blank. A great anniversary card.

I chose to use the mini speech bubble stamps included with one of Sarah's  AFOMFT kits stamped along with words from Everyday Sayings plus the girlie from my own Special Editions Back to School stamp set.

Claireliz

I decided to make a speech bubble shaped card, I cut a blank card into a speech bubble shape & covered in paper from one of Sarah's AFOMFT kits, I used the doodle doll & crown from Sarah's Princess Girl Doodle Doll stamp set, the doll is coloured using Blush, Dark Pink, Vanilla, Pastel Yellow & Blossom Promarkers, the dress & crown are also covered with Stickles.
I stamped the "Hello!" using Sarah's Block Alphabet Stamp set & added a bow & sequins from the AFOMFT kit

Lisa

I've used two patterned papers and a bird embellishment from Sarah's Be Mine Digi Kit to create a Birthday card. More details on my blog.

I used a Speech Bubble Silhouette Background File, Paper from A Few of My Favourite Things Kit and stamps from Picture This Stamp Set. Full details are on my blog.

Clare

I used speech bubble paper from Sarah's monthly kit. For more details please come back tomorrow when I'll be sharing my inspiration post or check out my blog here

My printer's on the blink so I wasn't able to print anything out to use so I raided my bag of digi images that I keep ready cut for times like these and made an ATC. The backing paper is a bit of squared paper cut from Sarah's DayBook (I made a bit of a mess on the other side!). I coloured it with Derwent Aquatone which the paper took really well and stamped some speech bubbles with stamps from AFOMFT kit. Then I added Angelica and Malcolm from 31 Spook St and added the little wooden speech bubbles.

Ria

I love speech bubbles into card. In this project I used the printed speech tab and the speech bubble stamp from A Few of my Favorite Things February East Village kit. I then stamped the Sentiment using the Outline Alpha stamps. I just added some scribbled lines in the word "happy" for some fun. The orange patch stamp is from the Doodle Doll Art Girl stamps. All the papers are from AFOMFT May Caught on Camera kit.

Claire

I used papers from Sarah monthly kit, way back in August and printed the speech bubbles from the digital kit 'Say Cheese'. I couldn't resist using Ronnie the Robot from a special edition set of stamps designed by our very own Clare Brown.

Jess

For my project, I really wanted to do something different so I have made a backpack!  I used the speech bubble badge from Sarah's Retro Badge Set.
