Challenge 87-Create your own background

Hello and welcome to Sarah Hurley Challenges. Is it really December already?
Where has the time gone!

Before I tell you about our fabulous December challenge, Sarah, myself (Clare) and the rest of the DT would like to thank all you lovely peeps out there who have entered our challenges and for your support. Not only this year but in previous years too. You really are a talented bunch and stopping by your blogs is so much fun!

Last months lucky winners have been chosen by Sharon just check out the post below for details. Prizes from Sarah will be on their way soon!

So now lets get on with our new challenge. This month I have chosen the theme of

CREATE YOUR OWN BACKGROUND

I'm really excited about this as it's something I want to do more of in 2014! So what better way to start than here on our challenge blog. If there's something you want to try we would love to hear all about it, just leave a comment below.

here's my project life layout

I created my background using a background stamp from my new 'Ronnie' Robot stamp set. The black arrow on the tag is also from the same set. I also used 3 different papers from Sarah's 'My Favourite Things' monthly kit which I absolutely love!

Once again the DT have created inspiring work.....

For my Holly Jolly card, to create the background paper I used the holly stamp from the  Christmas Tag Holly Jolly  set which I coloured with promarkers and then using my brushes added distress ink. I then mounted it on black card. The sentiment is from the same set. The doodle doll  is from the  Doodle Doll Princess set, which I added a hat and the Christmas clothes too.

Ria

I used the snowflakes from Sarah's Christmas Characters stamp set and stamped a white ink over kraft to create my background. Santa and the Christmas sentiment are also from the same stamp set. To add some texture, I put a white pompom in Santa's hat & sequins. I also used the banner and cane stamp from the Christmas Mail stamp set while the Merry sentiment is from Outline Alpha stamps.

For my card I used the large Crackle Texture stamp to create a background on my white card base. I did the same thing stamping it on a piece of Sarah Hurley wood grain patterned paper. I then used the strip stamp from the Zombie Doodle Doll stamp set to create a background on a piece of green Sarah Hurley paper. I stamped it in alternating colours for extra effect. I used a journaling card from a Sarah Hurley kit. I filled a little glassine envelope with sequins and stapled this to the card. I also stapled on some feathers. The hello stamp is also from a Sarah Hurley kit....I went wild on this one!!

To create the background on my card I used Sarah's Chevron Stripe Stencil, I dabbed a thick layer of paint over the stencil (really quickly so the paint didn't dry) then sprinkled white glitter all over it. I used the Dream a Little Dream Doodle Doll stamp for the girl, I coloured her in with Blush, Vanilla & Poppy Promarkers, I then stamped the Doodle Doll onto felt, cut out her dress & hat and glued them to the Doodle Doll, I added a couple of pearl beads for buttons & a pompom for her hat. I also used the She Believed stamp from the Be Amazing Doodle Doll stamp set for the sentiment.

I went for the simple geometric background design, faux stitching and I used the snip and sticks from the latest Christmas kit

To create the background on my card I chose two colour inks and stamped Sarah's butterflies randomly in alternating colours over a panel of card. I then tied my sentiment to this by stamping using these colours and then placing both panels on coloured card.

This was a great theme for me this month, it has given me the chance to get back to what I really enjoy about this hobby, playing with inks and stamps. I have used 4 of Sarahs stamps sets, onto white Neenah cardstock, colour tinted with various distress inks see my blog for more details).
I couldn't resist using the new stamp set from Sarah's latest 'Favourites Kit' (the garland in top of background), along with the large background Ledger stamp, Christmas mail set & Christmas cracker set

Carol

I used the stripes from the Halloween Witch Girl Doodle Doll stamp set to make my "wallpaper" background, I used the Fireplace Kisses stamp set for the fireplace and the mistletoe on the wall. The girl and the sentiment are from the Be Amazing Doodle Doll stamp set, and the holly and snowflake are in the Jolly Holly Tag stamp set. I coloured the dress in with Flexmarkers and used Distress Inks on the fireplace. Full details are on my blog.

I have created my background by using Sarah's 6x6 Hexagon Mask.  I covered the mask with Versamark and ran it through my Grand Calibur to emboss.  I heat embossed with clear embossing powder and then stamped the book print stamp from the Mini Textures Stamp Set, die cut a shape, and sponged some ink over it.  I used the book print stamp again on the from of the card but this time in white ink.  I printed some embellishments from Sarah's brand new digi kit The Most Wonderful Time to add to my card.

Lisa

I've used papers from Sarah's latest digi kit The Most Wonderful Time
to create a paper patchwork background. The snowman is also from the kit and is coloured with ProMarkers and the sentiment is from Sarah's Hand Drawn Roses stamp set.

My background's made with Sarah's chevron mask and silver acrylic paint over a blue glimmer mist. The images are from the fabulous new The Most Wonderful Time digi kit. Of course there has to be a bit of glitter too!
