It's a Strange time of year.

Hello, Carol here today and I thought I would share a Halloween card I made a wee while ago using the fabulous Angelica Strange Stamps and papers from one of my favourite digi kits 31 Spook Street.

1 - Stamp Angelica onto white card.
2 - Stamp two skulls, one onto the sticky bit of a post it note as you will need that as a mask for the bones and one onto Angelica's dress.
3 - Place the mask over the skull you stamped onto Angelica's dress and stamp two bones like in the picture.
4 - Colour her in with your favourite pens or pencils. I used Promarkers and Flexmarkers.
5 - Fussy cut her out.
6 - Punch out lots of different bits of Halloweeny papers from the 31 Spook Street Digi Kit and go around the edge with a black marker or ink pad. This is a great way to use up scraps of paper.
7 - Layer them onto the page.
8 - Pop Angelica onto some 3d foam and place her on top of the punchie shapes.
9 - Use the Spooktacular sentiment from the stamps to finish the card.

Ingredients
Promarkers and Flexmarkers

Thanks for popping by today, we would love it if you could join in our challenge this month, the theme is Halloween.

Recycled, Free Standing Kraft Project

Hi there, Claire N with you again, and today I wanted to re-visit a project I created for the latest edition (volume 5) of Sarah's Lookbook.

I'm not quite sure what to call it, I guess it's a 4 panel concertina, interactive frame (bit of a mouthful LOL).

What I wanted to do was to let you about where the idea came from originally, and then chat a little bit about some of the details. A project like this can sometimes look quite daunting to someone new to crafting, but really it isn't!

The whole project came about, because we had some free standing radiators delivered with lots and lots of protective packaging.....and being a crafter (as my husband was checking the radiators for damage) my mind began turning over when I found these fascinating pieces of cardboard, in perfect condition, that folded into nice neat little books. What you can't see in these photo's is the huge pile of them that I now have sitting in my craft room....hehe!

So, for those who would find this type of altered project daunting, the trick is to consider this a four separate projects...ie a piece of artwork for each panel. This is where I started, and you can see I have prepared the 4 backing paper panels. I have chosen to keep a unified theme across the panels, but of course anything goes and you can choose your own theme.

Here are the papers, stamps and extras I am using throughout, this is one of my favourite collections from Sarah's AFOMFT kits. Having settled on and created the layered backgrounds, I moved on to creating the set of dolls (Doodle Dolls, Dream a Little Dream stamp set), that can be swapped, according to your mood.

Stamp your dolls onto your favourite colouring card (later you will colour the faces, I used promarkers), and cut out. Next stamp the dolls onto the papers of your choice then cut out the hair and dresses separately, and re-dress (techniques known as paper piecing) the dolls. I used a wet glue (sparingly) to piece the dolls back together.

I made coordinating dolls, and used a polka dot kraft paper pocket as a storage pocket on the fourth panel (to house the extras). As I mentioned this is an interactive piece of art work, and on the second & third panels I have glued a usable mini clothes peg (once i had finished my decorative layers on the panels). The concept of being able to swap the dolls, from the extras stored, came about because I couldn't decide which of the dolls I liked best, so this way I could include them all.

The last detail I wanted to share with you, is how I made the bunting. Bunting is very popular in paper crafting at the moment, and it comes in all shapes and sizes. On the Doodle Dolls Stamp set there is one little triangular stamp (you can see mounted below) and for the beginner, it may not be instantly clear what it can be used it for.

Hopefully from the photo below you can see, that when stamped again and again, then carefully cut out, you have the makings of a pretty banner.

I chose to keep my banner black and white and used silicone glue to string them to a length of bakers twine. I then punched holes, and reinforced them with eyelets before knotting the bakers twine through it.

Thank you for bearing with me, and I hope I have taken away some of the mystery when tackling a project of this kind.

Looking forward to you visiting us again, when there will be another inspirational post from another of my team members.

Sarah Hurley Challenge News!

Hi Everyone

Today I'm popping in to share some news with you, after much thought and consideration, I have decided that after 4 years, this will be our very last monthly challenge.

We've had such fun running the challenges, meeting lots of new people (some of whom became part of my team and all of whom became friends, colleagues and people who's blogs I enjoyed visiting!) My little business has grown beyond my wildest dreams and has done so very very quickly, in that time I have learned a lot about what you are all looking for, what you (and I!) need and how myself and my team can provide that for you. As you know we changed the name of the blog and how we work, a little bit, earlier this year and this will be a continuation of those changes.

We hope you will stick around here on the Sarah Hurley 365 blog as it will be filled with inspiration and projects as well as some exciting new features and areas that my team are currently hard at work on! You'll see a gradual change here between now and the first quarter of 2015 as we implement our new plan and I hope you love what we have in store for you as much as I do!

I'd like to thank every single one of you who has entered a challenge over the last 4 years, I hope you will continue to share your work with us here and over on my Facebook page (we still like to see what you're up to and look for new people for future projects!) and we still want to hear from you so please do leave us comments on our new projects and plans as we go - it will help us to bring you more of what you want! I'd also like to thank the Sarah Hurley Design Team past and present for all of their hard work in making the challenges fun and inspiring, it's been so fun!

I'm so pleased to be ending on a Halloween challenge as it's truly one of my favourite crafting holidays - I can't wait to see what you come up with! (please see the previous post to enter the challenge!)

Prizes

First place - £10 voucher for Sarah's shop
Second place - a blog badge ( email Sarah)
Third place - a blog badge ( email Sarah)

Here's inspiration from the very talented design team....

Clare

I created a card using Sarah's Doodle Doll Halloween Witch Girl stamp set. The doodle border is from the Doodle Doll Wish Upon A Star set and the text border is from Doodle Doll Be Amazing set.
For my card share, I used Sarah's Malcolm Strange stamp set. I stacked the pumpkins, kitty and ghost to show some kind of balancing act while Malcolm is looking at them :) I also used the spider web to stamp the background for my card base.

I made this bookmark from Grungeboard, I used purple Distress ink on the Grungeboard then stamped onto the background using Sarah's Mini Background Text stamp, I stamped the Zombie Girl and coloured her in  with Promarkers and Stickles. I used Sarah's Block Alpha Stamps with embossing powder for "Zombie Girl's Book" so that it looked a bit grungy & distressed.

I have made a fun door hanging using the zombie doodle doll - love this set! I made it a tag style and used lots of layers of scrap papers to build up the background. I then added a nice long ribbon to hang it on the door handle - perfect for Halloween decor!

I made a witchy themed door hanger which I will use for my craft room door. I just love the new Halloween shapes that Sarah has in her Silhouette Online Store, and picked the Halloween Spooky Arched Window Scene to make a wee scene for my witch. I used Doodle Doll Halloween Edition, Witch Girl Stamps for the witch and the sentiment and the spiders web backing paper comes from The Witching Hour Collection which is available from Sarah's Store at Jessica Sprague.

I chose to create a journal page using the Doodle Home stamps. Look out for more about my journal page later on in the month.

I really struggle with Halloween (eeeek.....sorry Clare  LOL!), so decided to use the colours associated as a theme. I have made a hanging plaque, this time and used the Doodle Doll- Dream a Little Dream stamps. I stamped the dress onto to sticky backed canvas, coloured it with (pumpkin) promarker, frayed the bottom before 're dressing' the doll. I shall go into more detail how its made, later in the month.

Project Life week 28

I had some free time this week to do a bit of catching up on my PL pages. I have the whole of the summer to do before I get too far behind

Here's week 28 all finished and for this page I've taken a whole sheet of 12 x 12 and cut it into 4 x 6 cards. The only card not cut from a sheet is the title card taken from one of the last kits from the start of the summer. I've mixed things up a bit with offcuts and a few stamps plus one or two journaling cards from previous kits. I've tried to keep to certain colours as one of my "things" is for a page to be fairly uniform and not to messy.

Something totally new for me is to have a go at sewing on a journaling card and this template makes it super easy.

Hopefully this weekend I'll have some time to catch up a bit more.

Have a good one

October is here!

And if you are anything like me, that can only mean one thing...HALLOWEEN!!!! I just love it and everything about it, from the dark nights to candles, to spooky things and witches, sweeties and pumpkins but most of all the gorgeous crafty goodies that are available to make this season even better!

The latest issue of Sarah's Lookbook is out now, full of inspiration and crafty loveliness and this is what I made this Halloween Wreath for.

We are having a Halloween party this year and it is never to early to get organised and make decorations for it. I used my trusty Cameo for this and different shapes from  Sarah's Silhouette Store to make this.

I used a polystyrene wreath covered with strips of black felt as the base.  I chose 3 different colours of card stock and black to make it as effective and striking and of course "Halloweeny" as I could. I discovered that gluing hat pins onto the back of the cut out images with a hot glue gun allowed me to make it more dimensional, plus I could move them about more if I wanted to.  the witch in the middle is double sided and has clear fishing line in between the two layers so she moves. I can't wait to put this on our front door.

Ingredients
Polystyrene wreath
black felt
card stock
hot glue gun & pins
Fishing Line

Hope you like this and will try something similar. See you all soon, Carol x
